Town of Summerville Announces Rotary Donation to Enhance Sawmill Branch Trail

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (December 4, 2023) – The Town of Summerville is excited to announce that the Summerville Evening Rotary Club has donated five new benches which have been installed along the Sawmill Branch Trail. Made possible by a Rotary International grant and matching funds from The Nature Conservancy, these benches aim to enhance the trail experience for all users.

The benches are constructed of 100% recycled plastic, echoing Rotary's commitment to sustainability. They have been placed at quarter-mile intervals at the beginning of the trail, starting at the E Richardson trailhead. The Rotary Club hopes this donation will inspire other community organizations and individuals to sponsor additional benches until the goal of having a bench every quarter mile along the full 6.5-mile trail is achieved.

A dedication ceremony hosted by the Rotary Club will take place on Saturday, December 9th at 9:30 a.m. at the E Richardson Trailhead, located at 305 East Richardson Avenue. The public is encouraged to attend.

Town Parks and Recreation Director Amy Evans shared, "We are extremely grateful to the Summerville Evening Rotary Club for helping us work toward the goal of having regular rest areas and places to appreciate nature for all Sawmill Branch Trail users. We hope this inspires others to get involved."
