Planning & Economic Development

The Planning and Economic Development Department guides the physical growth and well being of the Town of Summerville. In addition to its planning functions, the Department oversees the Town’s zoning and land use policies and promotes the community as an attractive location for business and quality real estate development.

Staff provides planning support, technical assistance, coordination and advisory services on issues involving land use planning, zoning, annexation, economic development, open space land preservation, smart growth, and historic preservation. The process is governed through development and implementation of community plans, and enforcement of adopted Town codes and ordinances.

  Citizen Appointed Committees/Commissions

Citizens have an opportunity to volunteer their time and expertise on a number of citizen committees, boards, and commissions. Most are appointed by Town Council. Boards, by state and local statute, have regulatory authority; the other groups are considered mostly advisory in nature.
