The Town of Summerville is seeking input from citizens that live along Waring Street and use it regularly. At the November 2020 Public Works Committee Meeting of Summerville Town Council, the committee discussed converting Waring Street into a one-way street in a westerly direction between Simmons Avenue and Classic Street or between Tallow Street and Classic Street. The committee discussed the many reasons to consider the one-way conversion. The narrow pavement width makes it difficult for two vehicles to pass on the street. There are ditches alongside much of the road with no or very narrow shoulders that do not allow a vehicle to pull off the road. The street is used mostly by local residential traffic with low speeds and traffic volumes. There is planned residential development along this section of Waring Street that will increase traffic and add to these safety concerns.
There are two exhibits that show the two options of converting Waring Street to one-way between Simmons Avenue and Classic Street or between Tallow Street and Classic Street. Please vote for either of the two one-way options or the third option to leave it as it is. The online poll will be up until December 1, 2020.
