NOTICE TO TOWN OF SUMMERVILLE RESIDENTS – IMMEDIATE NEED TO FILL VACANCY ON MUNICIPAL ELECTION COMMISSION
The Mayor and Council of the Town of Summerville are accepting applications from Town of Summerville citizens to fill a vacant seat on the Municipal Election Commission. The Municipal Election Commission shall certify the results of each election to the municipality immediately following the certification of the votes cast in each election. The Municipal Election Commission shall conduct any provisional ballot hearings, election recounts and/or any other protest hearings regarding the election. The authority and responsibility of conducting elections shall be that of the Dorchester County Board of Elections and Voter Registration. The Dorchester County Board of Elections and Voter Registration shall conduct the municipal elections in accordance with Title 7 of the S.C. Code of Election Laws unless otherwise specified by S.C. Code 1976, Title 5.
The seat must be filled by a citizen who lives within the municipal limits of the Town of Summerville, as prescribed by State Law. The Town of Summerville’s municipal election is on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The commission will meet before and after that date.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee
This seven-member citizen appointed Committee was established by Town Council to advise the Town on bicycle and pedestrian issues.
Board of Zoning Appeals
Our Board of Zoning Appeals is a five-citizen appointed board hears appeals of the Zoning Ordinance and requests for appeals to the written decision of the Zoning Administrator.
Design Review Board
Seven citizens make up the Design Review Board. The board reviews all proposed commercial development within the Town of Summerville to ensure that the Town’s commercial corridors contribute to a sense of place and pride and further strengthen the integrity of Summerville’s historic and best characteristics.
State Accommodations Tax Funds
The Town of Summerville is accepting applications for funding in 2018 from state accommodations tax funds received in 2017
Historic District / Board of Architectural Review
The Historic District / Board of Architectural Review reviews all new construction, exterior modifications, and/or demolition of buildings within the Town of Summerville’s Downtown Historic District. The Historic District/Board of Architectural Review is appointed by Town Council and staffed by the Planning and Economic Development Department.
The Planning Commission reviews land planning applications and makes recommendations to Town Council on items such as rezoning, zoning ordinance amendments, the Comprehensive Plan, the Capital Improvements Plan, and other items as directed by Town Council.
