Fire & Rescue
The Summerville Fire and Rescue Department is a combination paid/volunteer department. The department consists of 109 career and 12 volunteer fire suppression personnel. Chief Richard Waring, IV heads the department. Suppression personnel are divided into 3 Battalions working 24 hour shifts.
Fire department management recognizes that our personnel are our most valuable asset, and as an organization, we stand by to perform any job requested by the Mayor and Town Council, and to assist the community with tasks that other agencies are unwilling or unable to perform.
Services
Emergency services rendered include, but are not limited to:
- Disaster preparedness and response
- Emergency medical first responder services
- Fire investigation
- Fire suppression
- Hazardous materials incident response
- Mutual aid to other local fire and law enforcement agencies
- Vehicle and industrial extrication
Community Engagement
In addition, the department provides fire prevention education and local training to local:
- Businesses
- Churches
- Civic organizations
- Industry
- Schools
Department personnel are also heavily involved in various student mentoring programs at the elementary and high school level.
